Benton Middle School

A Little History of Benton Middle School Junior Civitan Club!

BMS The club was chartered March 20, 2007 with a group of 24 motivated sixth graders. Even though the group was only together for the spring semester, they did two large projects before the end of the school year. The first club project was a food drive for the victims of the Dumas tornados. The drive was so successful that the Arkansas Food Bank had to send a large truck to pick up all the donations and they featured the club in their newest print materials.

The second project has become a BMS Junior Civitan tradition on Earth Day. The club planted a tree on the playground near the sixth grade wing and placed a marble plaque to commemorate the day. Every Earth Day since, the club has worked to beautify the BMS campus.

The 2007-2008 school year showed amazing club growth when the club was open to both grades and had over 60 members! Over the course of the year, the sixth and seventh graders did hundreds of community service hours. The club has continued to grow and make a difference in our community every year.

This year will be bigger and better than ever with a new seventh grade sponsor, Mrs. McCormick and Mrs. Gattin returning as our sixth grade sponsor. The officers are excited and the school is supportive of our efforts to make a difference!

Please say you want to make a difference too!

You can be a part of the Benton Middle School club’s commitment to making a difference by joining. As a member, you’ll receive a membership pin and Junior Civitan’s international magazine Countdown, which reviews international events, projects and recognizes exceptional projects and accomplishments of local clubs. Joint Projects

Junior Clubs are encouraged to join with Civitan and other Junior Civitan Clubs to increase the scope of their projects. By working together, adults and youth are able to pool resources and help more people in the community. Plus, these opportunities give Junior Civitans a chance to network with the professionals in Civitan Clubs.

Committed to Community

Community Service is not just a part of Junior Civitan, it drives our efforts and provides opportunities to get involved and meet new people. 15,000 Junior Civitans serve in communities all across North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Projects can include turning an abandoned lot into a playground, buying presents for a needy family at Christmas, or reading to at-risk children. When we take the step from ideas to actions, our efforts can change the world!

Junior Civitan Creed

I am a Junior Civitan:
An aware citizen of today,
The standing promise of tomorrow.

I seek to meet the needs of our world,
To be progressive in a world of change
With compassion and understanding for
The values and traditions of the past.

I value the security of knowing
That wherever I am
I will always be within reach
Of a fellow Civitan.

I dedicate myself
To society and to my fellow man
With a commitment
To make the world a better place.
