"Civitan has made a huge difference in the lives of Isaac* and Leroy*. The last
court appearance the Judge even commented on how much better they carried
themselves. I am very impressed with the difference in their communication
skills. Isaac has learned his colors, ABCs, numbers, shapes and social skills.
Leroy has learned colors, shapes and he has developed a personality. It is
amazing to see the difference that Civitan has made in their lives. Thanks to
all the teachers, counselors, physical and occupational therapists that have
worked so hard to help these children blossom."
Thanks again,
Trish*
*All the names in this letter have been changed to
protect the family. Trish was just a foster mother, but she worked tirelessly
with Isaac, Leroy and their siblings. She went on to adopt all of the children
and today they are thriving thanks to her love and care.

What is
Early
Intervention?

Many of our students test our of the Early Intervention program after the first
year due to the fact that the parents recognized a need for Early Intervention
and the children got the needed one-on-one instruction to prepare them for
kindergarten. One of our former Civitan Preschool students who received early
intervention services, has gone on to elementary school and is in the Gifted and
Talented Program.
Before the students reach the Pre-K classroom, we work on Early Intervention
skills. These skills are classified as Early Intervention objectives:
· Toilet training
· Feeding with a spoon
· Learning to play with others
· Dressing without supervision
· Behavior modification skills
· Learning how to play with toys
· Following simple instructions
· Learning to communicate
· Hand eye coordination
· Learning to crawl, walk and balance.
