How Can I Help?

Civitan Services is a wonderful organization full of love, care and support for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The organization was founded in 1958 through the generous, heart-felt giving of local men and women, and today the legacy lives on. Each day our professional staff creates a positive atmosphere to touch the lives and hearts of people living with a developmental disability. From the Board of Directors, to therapists, teachers, assistants and volunteers, we are committed to making a difference for the people of Saline County.

The key to making a difference is people. Without caring people from our own community who give from the heart, it’s just a good idea and another program. We recognize that in order to have the level of impact that is possible for the men, women and children that Civitan serve, a well-supported volunteer program is needed. We need people who can give a few hours per month to help make a difference in the life of an individual living with a developmental disability.

Consider one of the following opportunities to help and you’ll experience joy, laughter, and that incredible feeling of making a difference.

Human Interest

Adult Day Program, Group Home and Preschool

Skill instruction, hobby development, field trips This could be the most rewarding volunteer work you've ever done. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those whose lives have been touched by another person creates a feeling like no other. There are many opportunities to become involved with children or adults at Civitan.

Adult Skill Instruction
Teaching a class for 9-10 adults Most of us assume that everyone knows how to cook basic meals, care for their clothing, or communicate personal needs to a friend or family member, but for someone with a developmental disability, it may not be that simple. Sign-up to teach a class to 9-10 adults to help them learn how to be independent and live within their community. Time Commitment: 2 hours once a week/month

Adult Personal Interest Development
Writing, music, painting, fishing, golf, crochet, etc. Everyone is good at something and we need your talents! Come show us how to do whatever it is that you're good at, and maybe you'll help someone learn a skill that will give them hours of enjoyment. Time Commitment: 2 hours once a week/month

Adult Field Trips or Sponsored Outings
State Fair, Pumpkin Patch, library, museum We promise you'll have a great time accompanying Civitan to a special event, but don't wait for us, let us know if you'd like to plan a field trip for our group. Time Commitment: varying

Preschool Teacher's Aide
Individual instruction, play, meal and nap assistance, field trips There is not a more beautiful sound than that of a child's laughter. With over thirty children in our Preschool Program, there are always opportunities to hear the laughter and help shape the life of a child. Time Commitment: 2 hours once a week/month or as needed

Historian
Record the Civitan legacy Civitan Services has a rich history of love and support for people with developmental disabilities. Record Civitan events, milestones and achievements to remind future generations of the devotion and commitment made by people in Saline County to help their own. Time Commitment: varying

The Civitan Shoppe

Inventory Pick-Up
Ride with a Civitan Services employee to help gather items for the store As the first phase of a revenue generating mission called The Noah Project, The Civitan Shoppe is a nicer resale store located in Bryant. We need some help gathering items that are generously donated to our organization. The best part - if you find something you like, we'll set it aside and you'll have first dibs at The Civitan Shoppe! Time Commitment: 5 hours, 1 Saturday a month

Inventory Sorting
Help determine how donated items can be used That's right, nothing is wasted. Everything donated to Civitan is either sold at the Shoppe, in a yard sale or sent to missions, with all proceeds benefiting Civitan's services to men and women with developmental disabilities. Time Commitment: 4 hours once a month

Store Staffing
